I have just returned from a skiing trip with several heads of network from the UK including NRG, 4Networking, ecademy and Business Scene (Not that I think we are a network in the traditional sense). It was a fabulous week and the 4th year I have organised this particular trip.
My reason for starting NetSki was because I am a keen skier but was struggling to justify taking time off from my business because we were so busy. There were loads of people I had meant to have meetings with but just hadn’t managed it, so I decided to mix business with pleasure, invite people I liked from my network and see who came?
The response was surprising, we filled a chalet in no time at all and had an amazing time. Whats more, people bonded so much quicker than they would do in a normal networking context mainly down to bonding through a shared experience. When you spend a week living with other people it is hard to hide your true colours. This in my opinion is a good thing! The learning is this, the more time you can spend really getting to know your network, the quicker you will establish the important ingredient for becoming referable… TRUST!
It was funny to see everyone still communicating via iPhones, laptops and tablets. Matt our chalet host asked ‘Have you lot got shares in Apple or something?’ and special mention to Derek and Jo who are running their business from Alpe D’Huez for 9 weeks because technology enables them to do this!
Here is the video from the trip;
One of the party, William Buist blogged this which is also worth a read!
Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed it!

As someone who has been on all 4 trips I wholeheartedly agree with what you write. It confirms something I write and speak about often – relationships and friendships first, business second. I also blogged about the trip this morning – Making Friends in Business http://bit.ly/NRGmfib
couldn’t agree more; this was a fantastic trip and a great way to mix business and pleasure. I suspect that next year will be oversubscribed…..Warren, count me in for next year!!!
Fantastic idea to combine business with pleasure – what better way to do this than with a Netski trip. Well done guys for taking part. I would have loved to have joined you. Let me know when you are planning next year’s extravaganza.
Cheers, Sandra
